Two-truck collision in Paige kills one

A collision between a semi-truck and a box truck that occurred along U.S. Highway 290 in Paige, Texas resulted in the death of one individual. The accident happened last Monday, November 28 at approximately 5:19 a.m.

According to preliminary investigations, a Ryder freight-liner that was hauling seafood was heading west on U.S. Highway 290 when it collided with a Peterbilt towing truck that was hauling lime. The former was operated by Pascual Rueda-Orozco, and the latter was operated by a 63-year-old man. Rueda-Orozco was declared dead at the scene of the accident while the Peterbilt driver was transported to a hospital via STARFlight helicopter.

Sergeant Robbie Barrera with the Department of Public Safety Texas Highway Patrol said drivers should be extra careful when it comes to driving early in the morning. He noted “when you’re driving out here, make sure you limit your distraction, especially early in the morning. I believe this crash happened at 5 a.m. It’s still a little dark outside. Don’t be on your cell phone, make sure you’re paying attention to your driving, and don’t be eating or reaching for anything.”
