A father, a five-year-old boy, and a toddler were on I-45 south in a big-rig moving truck last Friday, October 14 when the father lost control of his vehicle. At around 1:15 a.m., their vehicle hit a metal guardrail and a concrete post near Aldine Bender Road in Houston, Texas, the Houston Police Department reported.
According to preliminary investigations, the impact caused the truck to flip over and erupt into flames. The father died at the scene of the accident while the five-year-old boy was able to pull his baby brother out of the vehicle and into safety, HPD Sergeant James Roque said.
Dhaval Shah, a University of Houston business student who was resting at his family’s hotel near the scene of the accident, said he was awakened by the sound of explosion at around 1:15 a.m. He noted, “I looked out the window, and I just saw fire, so I just ran out the door. I was trembling – my legs and my whole body was shaking.”
