Alcohol, drugs may be a factor in crash that injured two sanitation workers

Open cans of Bud Light beer and a pipe used for smoking methamphetamine was found in 46-year-old Susan Michelle Skinner’s automobile after she crashed into a Longview city garbage truck, seriously injuring two sanitation workers, the Longview News-Journal reported on July 10.

The accident happened at 3 p.m. on June 30, when Dennis Montgomery, 33, and Darron Crane, 46, were both at the back of the vehicle after throwing trash inside. According the Longview police officer Jeremy Higginbotham, Skinner does not remember the accident, which may suggest that she fell asleep at the wheel.

Montgomery was pinned between the back of the truck and the car, necessitating the help of the Longview Fire Department to extricate him. Crane was thrown several feet away from the truck.

A fundraising account has been opened to provide financial help for the two victims and their families.
